José Luis Muñoz has been described as “a fabulous countertenor” with “amazing, powerful expression.” He is often heard premiering and creating new works and principal roles, both here in the United States and abroad, such as Don Quijote de la Mancha in Mauricio Sotelo’s opera Dulcinea, The Owl in Hector Armienta’s Bless Me, Ultima, El Alma in Carla Lucero’s Juana, Yoshinaka in Garrett Fisher’sYoshinaka, and Magda Goebbels in Magda G for which he was featured in the Los Angeles Times. A versatile performer, Muñoz’ other work includes: Orff’s Carmina Burana, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Missa Brevis K275, Bach’s B Minor Mass, St Matthew’s Passion, Magnificat, Melissa in Caccini’s La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’Isola d’Alcina, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Missa Brevis.

In his 2024-2025 season José Luis returns for the third time to perform Handel’s Messiah with Symphony Tacoma, Carmina Burana with Seattle Philharmonic, and to sing along with acclaimed countertenor Jay Carter with Music at Epiphany in Purcell’s Come Ye Sons of Art.
